New Exhibits for the Week of May 4, 2008 Introductions by Uncle Ricky

This week, we remember Big Ron O'Brien, who passed away unexpectedly April 27 in Philadelphia. Radio once encouraged a healthy wanderlust for the young and talented, and Big Ron took all the advantages to which he was entitled.

Ron O'Brien, WCAR Detroit, December 31, 1971 Ron O'Brien hosts a high-energy New Year's Eve show on Detroit's 50KW WCAR. Here's 30 minutes of a hot Top 40 with incredibly good call letters, nice TM jingles, lots of watts and Big Ron O'Brien — but it didn't last long. They kept changing the format looking for instant success against some very serious competition. No problem - Big Ron got a better gig. Thanks to The Aircheck Factory Collection. Ron O'Brien, WCFL Chicago, June 7, 1972 On the other hand, this station held on longer, and hired Ron O'Brien twice! Here's a great hour of The Voice of Labor and Big Ron from June of 1972, during his first tour of the Windy City. Thanks to The John Celarek Collection Ron O'Brien, KFI Los Angeles, July 11, 1979 This exhibit was originally 'scoped and debuted on January 5, 1997. Now, here is the complete UNSCOPED hour. The fidelity doesn't reflect the quality of KFI at the time, but it surely demonstrates a matured Big Ron O'Brien at the end of the reel Seventies show. Thanks to The John Rook Collection. Ron O'Brien Revisited, 1980 This one-hour retrospective, produced by The Aircheck Factory, chronicles the fast-moving career of Big Ron O'Brien from 1970 'til 1979. It includes SCOPED versions of all the exhibits above, and more. It's a great listen for those who want to learn about this exceptional entertainer.
