We're commemorating the 50th anniversary of the beginning of rock 'n roll on WPOP in Hartford with a reunion on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at a location to be determined once we have a better idea how many people plan to attend. No special programs or presentations, just radio people getting together, swapping war stories, reminiscing about the good old days, and renewing old acquaintances or making new ones.

Anyone who works or worked at WPOP or any of its sister stations — WIOF, WYSR, WMRQ, WHCN, WKSS, WWYZ, WPHH, WURH — is invited, as is anyone who worked in radio or TV in Connecticut or Western Massachusetts, or is pals with someone who did.

The Student Broadcast Association of Indiana University and WIUXLP is having its annual Alumni Week-End on-air reunion over the weekend of August 22,23, 24th.

WIUS started as a campus carrier current commercial station in 1967 and held its first on-air reunion last year. This was to mark 40 years of continuos broadcasting service to Indiana University. At start-up in 1967, WIUS, was the largest commercial carrier current station in the USA with about 30,000 student residents able to receive the station. Later, the station was added as an audio service on the local cable company and is also available on the internet at www.wiux.org. In 2006, WIUS became WIUXLP, a low power FM station which broadened the stations coverage to the entire city of Bloomington, Indiana. Last year about 25 former alumni were on the air. About twice as many are expected this year.
